ITU Mooloolaba World Cup. Jamie takes Australian under 23 Championship Jamie Huggett in his first World cup race has taken the under 23 Australian championship crown and 8th elite in Mooloolaba. In a quality field of the worlds best triathletes including Brad Kahlefeldt Aus, Ivan Rana ESP, David Hauss FRA, Stuart Hayes GBR, Danylo Sapunov UKR just to name a few, Jamie raced a well planned race to come home with the under 23 crown . Jamie a member of our team and product of SXT is now training with VIS high performance coach Jono Hall. Jono Hall has done a great job with Jamie in taking him to the next step in becoming a world class triathlete. Jamie will now focus on his next event 2010 Ishigaki ITU Triathlon World Cup Japan on 25 April. Full results can be found at www.triathlon.org SXT has shown again the success of its coaching program with a number of our juniors following in Jamie's footsteps through our development path which starts with the junior beginner through to world class triathletes. For more information on our junior triathlon pathway contact Dave Huggett. From Ballarat Courier 30 Mar, 2010 JAMIE HUGGETT is ready to launch preparations for a European campaign and bid for a spot in the World Triathlon Championship. The newly-crowned Australian under-23 champion returned to his Black Hill home yesterday for a rare rest day with family. He will spend the next month in intense training at the Victorian Institute of Sport in Melbourne under the tutelage of Jonathan Hall. Training is set to increase from his current average of four to five hours a day. Then, Huggett will hit Valencia, Spain, via a race in Japan, to join the European world cup circuit. Each race will help build his claim for a spot at the world championship in Budapest, Hungary. Huggett, 19, is fresh back from Mooloolaba, Queensland, where he contested his fourth Olympic distance triathlon - a 1500-metre swim, 40-kilometre bike, 10-kilometre run. He finished eighth overall but was the first under-23 competitor across the line. "It was my first world cup race and you were up against the world's best professionals. I was running with guys who were two-time world champions,'' Huggett said. "It was double the distance to what I used to race. "The swim and bike were all right but in the run you could really tell the development of the older guys - there were minutes between the elite and the best of the rest.'' Huggett's national title completes a rare sporting double, capturing the under-23 crown as reigning Australian under-19 champion. He missed the age cut-off to defend his under-19 title by three weeks. Huggett said it took a "few races'' to adjust to the Olympic distance and his more experienced rivals. His aim in Queensland was to finish steadily and think more about his nutrition during the event. "I didn't realise the event was Australian titles as well,'' Huggett said. "I was pretty much just concentrating on my first world cup start." Huggett endured a tense wait just to get a start in Mooloolaba after missing out on initial selections. Like the nationals, Huggett must vie for a spot in the world championships by Triathlon Australia discretion. He must impress in Europe. The Monash University science student had a taste of international competition last year with a stint in Asia and looks forward to trying his luck again against the world's best. The World Triathlon Championship in Hungary is on September 8. If Huggett is selected, he is likely to return home first to complete his university exams.
Race 6, Gatorade Series, St Kilda March 21.
Sunday March 21 was the last race of the Victorian race calendar and the final race in the Gatorade triathlon Series.
Valuable points were up for grabs to see who would be the eventual winner in the 6 race series. Most of the SXT team were in the mix and just had to do enough in this last race to secure their positions in the series. Ben, whose season has been up and down cruised through the race to come in fourth and secure the no 1 spot in the Gatorade Junior elite series. Zoe, who has not disappointed all season kept her no 1 position in the series with a convincing win. Gav Webber held on to 2nd spot, while myself managed to seal 3rd spot in the series. Elkie managed a 3rd junior elite medal while Stuart and Matt Lowe had a top 10 finish in the elite and 25-29 div. respectively. Newcomer to the squad Fraser Walsh did extremely well placing 13th in a tough 15-19 age div.. Melissa also raced well to finish off her best tri season to date. Gatorade St Kilda results can be found at supersprint.com.au The squad now goes into a well-deserved break as we begin to plan for the season ahead. A huge thanks to our sponsors CBD Cycles adidas eyewear 2XU Profile Design Met Helmets your help and support is so greatly appreciated . Stay warm over the winter months ,train safe, train smart, and remember, SXT is the place to be. Omg I wrote that ... Cheers Dave ![]() ![]()
Schools Nationals West Lakes - Adelaide 2010.
School Nationals Championships were held in West Lakes, Adelaide from March 16-19. SXT had two juniors qualify. Zoe in the intermediate girls and Ben in the senior boys, both qualifying as the youngest in their age groups. Adelaide turned up the heat as the week went on with the temp topping 37 deg on Thursday making conditions tough for the young triathletes. Thursday was the individual races with the seniors starting off in the first wave tackling the 750 metre swim 20 km bike and 5 km run. The swim went well for most but the tight road circuit around the west lakes precinct was less than ideal. The roads were still open to traffic and a small lane coordinated off for the bike course saw some cautious juniors take on the circuit with buses and cars still able to access their lane. Nevertheless the majority made it through without incident to make the 5 km run in the heat, again on a tight narrow walking path .
There were no great times set for the day but congratulations go to the Victorian boys who took out first and second. Ben who raced well through the whole race struggled to stay in touch in the final run but still came home strong to bring the rest of the senior boys Vic team home. Zoe in the intermediate girls div had a 600 metre swim 16 km non-drafting bike and a 4 km run. Unlike the boys Zoe struggled in the swim but managed to pick up the bike and run the fastest Vic girls time to finish in the top 10. A great effort by Ben and Zoe considering they started from the bottom of their age group. Friday saw the team relays where teams of three do one leg each and pass the timing chip to the next competitor. Ben and Zoe both had the bike legs in their teams and both had strong bike legs to narrowly miss podium finishes. Next years racing will be an exciting year for our juniors with several new juniors joining the SXT junior team for next year and Ben and Zoe moving up from the bottom of the age group. Nationals next year will be in Redcliffe Queensland in early April. TBC. Results can be found at School Sport Australia More pics of Schools Nats in our Gallery Thanks again to our sponsors adidas eyewear Matt from cassons and especially CBD cycles Melbourne Your support and help has been invaluable. Cheers Dave H BRW Corporate Challenge Melbourne Sunday 28 Feb
The Annual BRW corporate challenge was held in Melbourne in cool but dry conditions. The BRW triathlon which is for anybody willing to take up the challenge of a triathlon in a team invironment. Each team consists of three employees of any business corporation etc . Each team member must complete a triathlon of 400 m swim 10 km bike and a 4 km run before passing a relay chip to the next member of the team. The BRW attracts some 6000 competitors trying their best for bragging rights at the board room table. SXT was lucky enough to have several of its squad working for the same employer, V/line; Sam Turley, Gav Webber and Dave Huggett. Our team was determined to take out overall honors after taking runners up for the last two years. Sam Turley was our first member to take to the water in hot pursuit of some of triathlons best triathletes such as Chris Leigh and Josh Rix. Sam did a great job to hold on to third spot at the first changeover; the second member Dave Huggett managed to bring the team into second at the last change. Gav Webber on the last leg took hold and brought the team home in what we thought was first position, only to be told several hours later that a team from a later wave just beat us in by a few seconds. Overall it was a great day where everyone enjoyed the day whether they raced or not, and there was plenty of talk about next year on how they can do better and faster than their fellow business teams. If you would like to know more on how the SXT coaching crew can help you and your organizations team or teams for next years BRW give us a call and you may have the bragging rights at the boardroom table for 2011. Cheers Dave Huggett

Maryborough Goldfields Reverse Triathlon Sunday 14 Feb
The Maryborough Goldfields reverse triathlon with its Goldfield rich prize money saw some of the best triathletes in Australia converge on the rural town . With the likes of Leon Griffin ,David Meade, Gareth Halverson and of course our own Jamie Huggett the racing in the men's open and Nadelle Legge and Elkie Belcher in the women's the racing was always going to be tough . Although Jamie and Gareth led onto the bike the older long distance triathletes Leon Grifffin and David Meade showed their stuff on the bike to give them just enough room to take out the race respectively in front of Jamie Huggett 3rd and Gareth Halverson 4th. In the women's open Elkie and Nadell Legge fought out a battle much the same as the men with Nadell slipping away on the bike with elkie just missing out by nearly catching Nadell on the final swim leg . Newcomer to the SXT squad Fraser Walsh had agreat day taking out the men's 15-16 div ,well done Fraser, and welcome to the squad . Results for Maryborough reverse triathlon can be found at www.ballarattriclub.com Race 5 Gatorade series Portarlington Race 5 of the Gatorade triathlon series was ran at Portarlington on the Belraine peninsula last Sunday 14 . SXT had a number of the crew competing the 800 meter swim 26 km bike and 8 km run . The whole squad excelled once again ,Ben Huggett winning the Junior elite Div and now in a good position to take out the series. Zoe Osborn once again showing she can win from the bottom of her age group winning the 15-19 Div also now in line to take out the series . The ever improving Gav Webber took an extra step to take 2nd spot in his div, only seconds away from the gold . Matt Lowe and Melissa Burgoyne while only in their first season showed great improvement with both exceeding their expectations and getting all that much closer to the podium . The rest of the squad competed at Maryborough ,report coming soon. Again a big thanks to Dave and Anthony of CBD Cycles for the supply of race wheels and pre race set ups, we cannot thank you enough for the great service to our squad once again. Cheers Dave H ![]()
Geelong 70.3, Gav Webber Race Report.
Sunday 7 Febuary was the running of the 70.3 ,or half Ironman they used to call it ,in Geelong. The first Triathlete of SXT to take on the 1.8 km swim 90 km Bike and 21 km run was Gavin Webber who ran in the 25-29 age group . The training definitely paid of for Gav as he stopped the clock at 4 Hr 18 min not a bad time for your first try at the longer distance . Gav posted great times in all three events to come home in 8th position and 45th overall . Well done Gav . A special thanks to CBD Cycles for equipping Gav with his Cervello P3 which returned Gav an avg speed of just under 40 km for the 90 km . A very special thanks to adidas eyewear for your help ,support and the top grade sports eyewear . The SXt crew now move on preparing for their next race Portarlington in race 5 of the Gatorade series and the Gold Fields reverse Triathlon in Maryborough . Cheers Dave Huggett

Gatorade Series Race 3 Sandringham, Vic Olympic Dist Champs . The Victorian Olympic distance championships was held at Sandringham ,Sunday 10 January . Southernxtriathlete had a number of triathletes competing in both the Olympic distance event 1.5/40/10 and the sprint distance 750/20/5,.
Elkie Belcher was first to hit the water in the Olympic distance ITU junior div. Elkie managed to hold on to the pack in the swim and bike and finnish of with her trademark run leaving the rest of the field behind her to be crowned the Victorian ITU Junior olympic Dist Champion and the third elite women over the line . Next to hit the waves was yours truly and although struggled at times still managed a third spot ,not to bad for the old bloke . Gav Webber, Melissa Bugoyne and newcomer to the squad Matt lowe were of in the following waves Gavs excellent swim and i am sure one of the faster bike splits of the day 0f 58.20 on his new CBD Cervelo gained Gav a 6th spot ,now that's tough racing for 6th!! Matt lowe, same div as Gav, held on well to have a solid race throughout to finnish 12 . Melissa on her first attempt at the Olympic distance coped very well especially the bike ,with race wheels supplied by CBD cycles ,then came the run where she struggled with blistering feet, don't forget that talc nextime Mel !
In the sprint Distance event Ben Huggett showed he is on the way back to the top with a great swim and bike and getting a 55 sec lead into the run but unfortunately getting run down in the last km .
For those who don't know, Ben has only recently being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and has struggled to finnish of his races strongly ,but is now getting closer and closer every race . And now for the last of our crew for the day Zoe Osborn , this girl never disappoints always putting in 100% and coming out on top once again .. A special thanks again to our sponsors especially adidas eyewear your support is invaluable, please visit their web site and have a look at the great range they have, second to none . Also a huge thanks goes to Anthony and Dave of CBD Cycles for once again supporting our SXT squad with just about everything from advice to race wheels .,thanks heaps Guys . See you all at the next main event Gatorade Elwood on Jan 31 in the meantime keep a look out for our triathletes at Canberra ,Mordialloc, . Cheers Dave Huggett ![]()
Elite, Junior & Age Group Race Updates More Junior Race Info and Entry available at our Junior Race Information Page Revised, elite, junior series and age group qualifying races have been confirmed over the past 48 hours to ensure triathletes of all levels can plan their summer campaigns. The elite series now reverts to two races, with Caloundra on Queensland's Sunshine Coast to host an exciting Enduro format on February 7. The scheduled race at Raby Bay, south of Brisbane, will feature a spectacular and very fast Triple Super Sprint format on February 28. The 2XU Australian Junior Triathlon Series race that was to be part of the Hobart Challenge on February 14 will now be held the following weekend at Sandringham in Melbourne on February 21. This will also double as the Australian Junior Sprint Distance Championships. The Australian Age Group Sprint Distance Championships will now also be part of this event in Sandringham on February 21. As advised earlier, the Australian Age Group Olympic Distance Championships will be held as part of the Canberra Capital Triathlon on January 24. In another development for age group athletes, t3 Events has worked tirelessly with Triathlon Tasmania to confirm it will run an Olympic Distance Triathlon on the same day the Hobart Challenge was originally scheduled - February 14. This will be held in Devonport and will act as the Tasmanian Olympic Distance Championships, ensuring that those who had already made travel plans to Tasmania still have the option of competing in a world championships qualifying race. The Tasmanian Sprint Distance Championships will be held as part of the Seven Mile Beach Triathlon (MyState Financial Triathlon Series) on January 3. Gatorade Series Race 2 Elwood Race 2 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series was held at Elwood Beach Melbourne on Sunday 13 . The weather although overcast with a light breeze made some tough racing especially with the swim being a little choppy, a few mouth fulls of water taken here . SXT had a near full squad racing,so it was our elite men and juniors hitting the water first . Ben Stuart and Elkie all fell victim to the rough conditions in the swim , with all missing the first pack. Ben with his trademark strong ride managed to reunite with the second pack and come home with a second in the ITU Junior male div . Elkie who ended up doing the whole ride on her own still managed a second with strong run performance .
Meanwhile Zoe kept up her great season with a silver in the 15-19 div , great work for a girl who is just 15 . The ever improving Gav Webber also a second came home with one of the fastest age group times of the day. New comer to the squad, Matt Lowe showed he is more than capable at his first race having the fastest run split of the squad ,watch this guy in the upcomming season, well done Matt. Even yours truly came in second . The whole squad again all finished well up in the placing's . A special thanks to CBD cycles for there ongoing support especially at the races, thanks Anthony and Dave. Now its back doing the hard yards till the next race in the new year, Gatorade Sandringham on Jan 10 . Keep training and enjoy the festive season ,but not to much . Cheers Dave
Xosize Series Race 2 Sandringham Race 2 of the Xosize series was held at Sandringham in near perfect conditions ,a far cry from the fortnight before . We had only 2 triathletes Ben and Zoe attend ,due the race being a VSSSA qualifier . Ben who raced the junior elite category got of to a great start by making the lead group after the swim . Ben formed a group of about 5 that tried to hold of a second group which contained some of the faster runners. When the second pack caught the first Ben made the decision to break away and make a dash for T2 . Ben who had a 20 second lead on the pack had spent to much on the breakaway and could not hold of the faster runners. A great effort by Ben showing some innitiative to try something to break up the packs which so many elites are relying on now . But few lessons learnt along the way . ......... ............. ...........
Zoe was next of in the 15-19 yo ,although down a little in the swim Zoe used her powerful bike leg to decimate the rest of the field and win comftably . Zoe is now leading her age group for selection to represent Victoria at Schools Nationals to be held in Adelaide in March . Full results available at http://www.triseries.com.au/ The full squad will be racing next Sunday 13 at the Gatorade series Elwood. See you all there Cheers Dave .......... .................... ...
Gatorade Series StKilda Race 1: Race 1 of the Gatorade series was held at the Catani Gardens in Stkilda in less than perfect conditions. In contrast to our last race two weeks ago which was held in in sweltering conditions,Stkilda greeted us with the wettest conditions i have seen for a triathlon . Due to the large amount of rain the swim was canceled and replaced with a 1.5km run . As we stood in the rain we wondered weather to pack up and head home or continue. As the rain eased up the descion was made to go ahead but to take it easy on the bike . Even with the caution taken on the bike the whole SXT team came through with some outstanding results . Stewy Walpole came within seconds of a podium finish in the Elite division, Ben ,Melissa ,and myself all in the top 5. Zoe Osborn showed she is back in form with a win in the 15-19 age group . Gav Webber who was holding first position for most of the race succumbed to a flat tyre . Jamie Huggett while officially part of the VIS and under Jono Hall had a great race to come in second elite . Results can be found at Super Sprint Thanks again to all our sponsors who have helped us along the way . Till next race Cheers Dave
Xosize Series Race 1 The Victorian Triathlon season started last Sunday 8/11 with perefect conditions . With a light breeze and tempetures getting into the 30 deg mark the racing was hot . The SXT crew came out with some great results . Stewart Walpole started the sxt form by coming in 4th in a tight finnish in the open elite category. Elkie Belcher who has missed her fair share of training due to study and exams took out second in the open elite women's . Gav Webber stayed true to form with a 2nd in the 25-30 AG ,along with Zoe Osborn 2nd in her AG . Ben Huggett amazingly got through the Junior elite Category despite getting his arm out of plaster only a week ago ,well done Ben great effort . Another special mention must go to Melissa Burgoyne who in her first major triathlon took out a 5th place and showing the rest of the women in her field she is definitely someone to watch in the upcoming season. A great day was had by all as the SXT team showed that it is again one the premier squads in Victoria. See you all at the next Triathlon , please come up and say gooday . Cheers Dave Huggett
The Victorian race season starts this Sunday 8/11 with the Xosize series at Green Point Brighton. With this race also race 1 of the 3 VSSSA qualifiers SXT will have nearly a full squad competing . Results reports and photos early next week . The conditions were hot a far cry from the southern winter we have just came from and the drafting was rife, but TA put on one of the best races i have seen for a long time . Everything seemed to go of without a hitch and though the drafting was a major issue it was out of the tech officials hands as the course was probably a little to small for the amount of triathletes on the course at the one time. Stewart Walpole started the week of well with a 3rd in his division of the Aquathon . Elkie Belcher then took out a 8th spot in the Sprint Triathlon 16-19 on the Sunday morning . Jamie 17th in the Junior elite Ben 22nd in 16-19 Sprint and Dave 39th in 45-50 Olympic distance, a great effort by all considering the fields were 100 plus in each race of the worlds best triathletes. A special thanks again to all our sponsors , Matthew of Cassons ,Met Helmets and Profile Design. David and Anthony of CBD cycles , Nicola from 2XU, especially for their help with a last minute wetsuit , And last but not least a very very big thank you to Brent Doherty of Adidas Eyewear your help and support of our young team is so much appreciated and wont be forgotten , best of luck mate at the Melbourne marathon . Till next race report. Cheers Dave
Jamie wins Airlie Beach Triathlon ,SXT crew prepares for World Champs
Jamie Huggett"s prep for world Champs on the Gold coast took another step in the right direction on Sunday with a win at the Airlie Beach Triathlon. Jamie swam and rode to stay in touch with the leaders till he took over on the run to win by 13 sec over his nearest rival. While back at home with the weather was topping a miserable 8 deg and the odd shower the SXT squad competed in the Ballarat Tri Clubs King of the Mtn Duathlon . All completed the grueling 5 km run 20km bike 2.5km run up and down Mt Bunninyong in preparation for the World Champs in 2 weeks time . Jamie has returned from a successful Young Guns tour of Japan, Italy and Ireland . While Jamie's first race in Sendai Bay Japan was not up to expectations a lot was learnt from his first race for the season . Jamie bounced back with some solid training in Varese, Italy, with some of the most talented triathletes Australia has to offer . This solid training base prepared Jamie for Athlone (Ireland) ITU European Continental Cup where he came a very credible 9th overall and second Aussie home. A special thanks must got to Jono Hall,Craig Redman,Toby Cootes, ( coaching staff ) and the rest of the support staff ,all done a great job with the Young Gun Tour Triathletes .
